Honoring the Divine Feminine: Celebrating Devi This May

As spring blossoms and the Earth hums with renewal, May invites us to attune to a powerful force woven through nature, the cosmos and our very being: the Divine Feminine, or Devi as she is known in the Vedic tradition.

Far more than a symbol, Devi is a living energy. She is the mother, the healer, the creator, the fierce protector and the destroyer of illusion. Her Sanskrit name translates to “goddess” or “shining one,” a radiant reflection of Shakti —the vital creative life force that animates all of existence.

Importantly, Devi energy is not bound by gender. Rather, it is a universal frequency that lives within all of us—fostering intuition, compassion, resilience and deep connection.

Through the lens of Ayurveda, we see Devi expressed in the qualities of the three doshas:

• Kapha embodies Devi as the nurturing mother—grounded, stable and supportive

• Pitta reflects her as the fierce protector—focused, courageous and transformative

• Vata expresses her as the muse—expansive, creative and deeply intuitive

By understanding and honoring the doshas within ourselves, we align with Devi’s multifaceted energy and strengthen our connection to both our inner world and the rhythms of nature.

Last month, we honored Prithvi, the Earth element. Now, in May, we turn inward to embrace the feminine energies of nourishment, intuition and creative expression.

Throughout this month, we will be celebrating the many forms of Devi, including a special tribute for Mother’s Day and an exploration of goddesses who inspire self-care, strength and spiritual alignment.
