    Dual-Dome Kansa Wand

New Dual-Dome Kansa Wand! An Ancient Ayurvedic Skincare Secret

Are you looking for a massage tool that detoxifies, lifts, smooths and softens and can also be used interchangeably between your face and body? PAAVANI Ayurveda now offers the Dual Dome Kansa Wand, a double-ended massage tool that meets all your skin care needs! If you have yet to hear of a Kansa Wand, it is a traditional Ayurvedic beauty tool that has rejuvenated skin since the Bronze Age and to this day continues to be a favored skin and body care accessory thanks to the various benefits that precious kansa imparts.

    What is Kansa?

Kansa is a sacred metal composed of copper and tin in a ratio of 4 to 1. This combination is called bronze in the West and kansa in the East. Our Dual Dome Kansa Wand is made from pure kansa, sheesham wood (a.k.a. Indian rosewood) and features two ends with different-sized kansa domes. This dual kansa offers a versatile skincare tool that can be used to heal and beautify the face, body, spirit and mind.

The Benefits of Kansa Wand Massage

Performing a Kansa massage on both the face and body offers a myriad of benefits including:

    • balancing pH levels in the skin and body

    • oxygenating skin cells

    • detoxifying deep within the skin’s layers

    • releasing stagnant energy in the lymph

    • stimulating blood flow to the skin’s surface

    • smoothing fine lines and wrinkles

    • boosting collagen production

    • reducing inflammation in the skin and tissues

    • nourishing the skin and various tissues within the body

    • soothing and softening tired, achy muscles

    • calming an overworked nervous system

Kansa Wand & Healing the 3 Doshas

In Ayurvedic medicine, the Kansa Wand is cherished because it is said to balance the three doshas: vata (air & ether), pitta (fire with a little bit of water) and kapha (earth & water). Doshas are energies in the body and their alignment is critical to overall health. This holistic practice of harmonizing the mind, body and spirit through the three doshas and five elements has been tried, proven and true for thousands of years in Ayurveda to boost energy and healing.

As aforementioned, kansa can remarkably balance the skin’s pH thanks to its alkalizing properties. When the skin has an excessive amount of acid content, this can cause pitta related imbalances such as sensitivity and inflammation, vata related imbalances such as premature wrinkles, kapha related imbalances such as stagnation and congestion and tridoshic imbalances such blemishes and acne. In short, when the Kansa Wand is massaged into the skin, it can draw toxins and acidity from the skin’s layers, helping to reveal your most beautiful skin. Even more, kansa brings oxygenated blood to the skin, evens texture and also releases any stagnation within the lymphatic system.

Kansa is able to work with even the subtle doshas - prana, tejas and ojas. Prana, also known as the life force healing energy of vata, is cultivated through kansa massage because the skin and tissues are revitalized while aches and pains are reduced. Tejas, also known as our inner glow and radiance, are revealed as the skin and tissues detoxify and excess heat and acidity are released. Ojas, the energy reserve of the physical, emotional and spiritual bodies, is nourished as toxins and stress are melted away through the loving act of kansa massage.

Boost Your Ayurvedic Oil Application with a Kansa Wand Massage

When performing a kansa massage, it is important to always use a Body Oil or Facial Serum to help the Kansa Wand glide gently along the skin without any catching or pulling. Pairing a Kansa Wand with your Ayurvedic oils also maximizes their penetration and efficacy, increasing their overall effects. To experience a traditional Ayurvedic kansa massage, we recommend utilizing our dosha-specific, herbal Body Oils and Facial Serums to meet your unique doshic needs.

How to Perform a Kansa Wand Massage

Facial Kansa Wand Massage (using the small dome)

    Dual-Dome Kansa Wand Facial Massage
    1. Blend your Serum of choice with Floral Water and massage onto the face & neck.

    2. Apply a few extra drops of Serum directly onto the top of your Dual Dome Kansa Wand .

    3. Begin the massage by gliding the wand across your forehead, releasing any expression lines from this area of the face. Repeat three times.

    4. Sweep the wand from the undereye region to the temples. Repeat three times on both sides of the face.

    5. Continue with this sweeping motion, moving from the nose and cheeks to the ears. Repeat three times in each section and on both sides of the face.

    6. Sweep upward along the jawline towards the ears. Repeat three times on both sides of the face.

    7. Sweep down the sides of the neck to help direct the lymphatic drainage towards the heart. Repeat three times on both sides of the neck.

    8. Return back to the third eye center and do 3 clockwise circles here to close your Facial Kansa Wand Massage.

    9. Follow with a Body Kansa Massage (scroll down for directions).

Body Kansa Wand Massage (using the large dome)

    Dual-Dome Kansa Wand Body Massage
    1. Apply a generous amount of Body Oil to the body and also add some oil to the top of the Dual Dome Kansa Wand . If you absorb oil quickly, you may apply oil to each section of the body throughout your massage so your skin remains oily enough for the Kansa wand to glide effortlessly across it. You may also apply extra oil to the top of the wand as needed.

    2. Starting with the neck, gently massage the Kansa Wand from the jawline down towards the clavicle, working from the outermost part of the neck towards the center, making sure to avoid massaging the throat center. Repeat three times on both sides of the neck.

    3. Gently massage the chest, moving the wand in gentle, circular motions around the nipple and outer breast tissue. Repeat three times on both sides of the chest.

    4. Sweep the wand from the center of the chest outward towards the underarms, and repeat three times on both sides of the chest.

    5. Move to the inner wrist and sweep the Kansa Wand towards the inner elbow crease. Then, gently sweep the outer wrist up towards the elbow. Repeat three times.

    6. Sweep the wand from the upper inner arm towards the underarm, then gently sweep to the upper outer arm towards the shoulder. Repeat three times.

    7. Repeat steps 5 & 6 on the other arm.

    8. At the abdomen, start the massage near the belly button and move outward in a gentle, circular, clockwise motion. Repeat three times.

    9. At the center of the abdomen, glide the Kansa Wand in downward strokes toward the right hip crease. Continue gliding the wand in downward strokes toward the outer sections of the abdomen. Repeat on the left side.

    10. Move to the lower leg and gently sweep upward towards the knee, covering the circumference of the lower leg. Repeat three times in each area.

    11. Move to the upper leg and gently sweep upward towards the hip crease, covering the circumference of the upper leg. Repeat this three times on each area of the upper leg.

    12. End the massage at the foot, sweeping the Kansa Wand across the top of the foot, from the toes towards the ankles. Repeat three times.

    13. Once at the sole of the foot, massage the foot in a circular motion, allowing tension to further melt away and release.

    14. Repeat steps 10, 11, 12 & 13 on the other leg.

    15. Once your Kansa Wand Massage is complete, wrap yourself in your cozy robe and slippers. Pour yourself a cup of your favorite organic, herbal, loose leaf tea & find a comfortable spot to continue to rest & renew.

    The Greying Effect

While using your Kansa Wand, you may notice a subtle greying of the skin. Don’t be alarmed if you experience this, as it means the kansa massage is effectively drawing impurities from the skin and body. More specifically, kansa transmits electromagnetism, which reacts positively when acidity is present. Therefore, if you see the greying effect, you are effectively eliminating excess acid and toxins while reducing inflammation in the subtle electrical fields that run in the collagen and fascia layers of your skin.

If greying occurs, simply wipe off the grey oil with a steamed towel & a mild cleanser. Greying will not happen every time, as it depends on how the environment has affected your skin, so don’t worry if you don’t see greying every time.

Add Kansa Wand Massage to Your Self-care Routine

Kansa massage is recommended daily for its most significant healing benefits and is best performed after your garshana and abhyanga routines. We also like enjoying a kansa massage to relax sore muscles after a long day. Although daily practice is ideal, you will still reap the many benefits of this ancient Ayurvedic massage, even if you can only receive once a week or whenever you have extra time to focus on self-love and self-care. From a few minutes to an hour, devoting time to kansa massage is a perfect Ayurvedic ritual to detoxify, lift, smooth and soothe the skin, revealing your inner radiance and glow. We hope that kansa massage becomes your new favorite Ayurvedic skincare secret!
