    Chia Seeds

    • The main ingredient in this recipe, chia seeds, are considered a nutrient trifecta thanks to these small yet mighty seeds containing protein, fiber and healthy fat. This medley of nutrients will have you feeling satiated and energized throughout your day.

    • Chia seeds’ abundance in fiber is also an excellent way to draw ama (toxins) out of the bodily tissues and back into the digestive tract, where these wastes will then be eliminated from the body through excretion and urination.

    • Chia seeds help to reduce inflammation thanks to their antioxidant properties and abundance of Omega 3 fatty acids.

    • Due to their hydrophilic (water-attracting) properties, chia seeds are considered demulcent, which in herbalism means that they help retain water in the body. When chia seeds come into contact with liquid, they form a gel-like substance with a smoothing and hydrating effect. This mucilaginous gel can provide a protective coating, which makes chia seeds helpful in relieving irritation and inflammation in the digestive tract.

    • You may have heard of probiotics, which are “good bacteria” that are beneficial for your digestive system and overall health, but have you heard of prebiotics? Prebiotics are the foods probiotics eat, and yep, chia seeds are a prebiotic food!

    Plant-Based Milk

    • With benefits for animals and the planet, we encourage you to utilize the variety of plant-based milks available to make this Golden Chia Seed Pudding.

    • If you are predominant in vata dosha or currently experiencing an imbalance in vata, we recommend using almond, sesame or oat milk due to their heavy, warming and grounding properties for light, cold and mobile vata dosha.

    • If you are predominant in pitta dosha or currently experiencing an imbalance in pitta, we recommend using coconut, rice or soy milk due to their cooling and soothing properties for fiery pitta dosha.

    • If you are predominant in kapha dosha or currently experiencing an imbalance in kapha, we recommend using rice or soy milk due to their light and drying properties for heavy, moist and dense kapha dosha. 

    Maple Syrup

    This syrup is the sap, or the literal life force or ojas, of maple trees. As it nourishes maple trees with its vitamins and minerals, it, too can nourish our bodies. Maple syrup is considered cool, light and moist in Ayurveda, making it best for calming pitta and vata doshas. Due to its cool and moist properties, it can imbalance kapha dosha when used in excess. Thus, if you are working to reduce excess kapha dosha from the body and/or mind, you may consider omitting maple syrup or any sweeteners from this recipe.


    Vanilla Extract

    If you have never appraised the health benefits of vanilla extract, you may be surprised to learn that vanilla extract not only calms the nervous system but it can also help lower LDL and enhance healthy digestion by promoting probiotic “good bacteria” in the gut. Ayurvedically speaking, vanilla extract pacifies both vata and kapha doshas while, if used in excess, it can aggravate pitta dosha.

    Ingredients

    1  cup plant based milk

    1  teaspoon Golden Milk Powder

    ½ teaspoon maple syrup

    ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract

    3  tablespoons chia seeds 

    Directions

    Step 1

    In a blender, add the plant-based milk, Golden Milk Powder, maple syrup and vanilla extract and blend for 10-20 seconds. You may also use a hand blender to blend the ingredients in a measuring bowl.

    Step 2

    Once blended to a smooth consistency, transfer the liquid mixture into a bowl and add the chia seeds, whisking until blended. Allow the mixture to rest for 15 minutes. 

    Step 3

    Next, divide the mixture evenly between two empty PAAVANI jars or half-pint mason jars and fasten them securely with their lids.

    Step 4

    Place the Golden Chia Seed Pudding in the fridge for at least 3 hours or preferably overnight to set. 

    Step 5

    When ready to enjoy, serve with your choice of toppings. We love adding cacao nibs, freshly sliced strawberries (or fruit of choice), nuts and shredded coconut. This pudding also works great as a layer in a yogurt parfait. Get creative, there is no one way to enjoy this recipe.
